Western Shores Lyrics

Western Shores...

Oh the western shores how they called me
How they tugged at my heartstrings
So I packed up my unhemmed dreams
Took them with me to sew back together again
At the edges of their torn and tattered seams
Oh the western shores how they called me

'Cause there simply wasn't enough pretty flowers
To satisfy my soul in New York City
So I headed out across these states
On rails that would lead me back to California

My bags, how they weighed me down
But my soul remained as light as a feather
As the train rolled on until my past was gone
Only remains to be seen when I sleep to dream

And some three days later
I landed in the City of Angels
Amidst a fluttering of broken wings
And my heart how it sings
To the sky above and to the earth below

Oh the western shores how they called me
How they tugged at my heartstrings
So I packed up my unhemmed dreams
Took them with me to sew back together again
At the edges of their torn and tattered seams
Oh the western shores how they called me

'Cause I had enough sour bites of The Big Apple
And skyscrapers were growing out of my head
They kept blocking my peripheral vision
That kept  me from seeing my path in front of me

Love with eyes wide open, Colorado she was a true beauty
From her jagged cliffs to her high peaks
And the Mississippi, she surely was mighty
With a mouth that can swallow time whole

And some three days later
I landed in the City of Angels
Amidst a fluttering of broken wings
And my heart how it sings
To the sky above and to the earth below

Oh the western shores how they called me
How they tugged at my heartstrings
So I packed up my unhemmed dreams
Took them with me to sew back together again
At the edges of their torn and tattered seams
Oh the western shores how they called me

'Cause my eyes longed for endless California blue skies
And my heart yearned for the love that I've been missing
Underneath wide open California blue skies
Where I can dance free through fields of pretty flowers

Yes I prayed that all I left behind
Would lie bare compared to life in front of me
That was waiting for me at the western shores
Once I unpacked my dreams and left my past behind

And some three days later
I landed in the City of Angels
Amidst a fluttering of broken wings
And my heart how it sings
To the sky above and to the earth below

Ficus Trees...

In LA the ficus trees are thriving
So must I, so must I, so must I
As they go on living, go on giving
So must I, so must I, so must I
Become fluid like the ficus trees

Under the forgiving sky
I mustn't let the scent of defeat overcome me
In a city where there's so much beauty
That surrounds me always astounds me

Their roots expanding out grounds me
When I want to take to the sky
Like a hummingbird chasing flight

In LA the ficus trees are thriving
So must I, so must I, so must I
As they go on living, go on giving
So must I, so must I, so must I
Become fluid like the ficus trees

When I walk the endless streets
Where their beauty overcomes me
Like your face the morning after
With a hint of sleep in need of coffee

Oh lover take me under a ficus tree
Our limbs intertwined with tenuous roots
Getting lost inside nature's scentuality

In LA the ficus trees are thriving
So must I, so must I, so must I
As they go on living, go on giving
So must I, so must I, so must I
Become fluid like the ficus trees

In this city of lost and found angels
Where ephemeral dreams take to the sky
Once you lose site of absolute reality
That keeps your temporal soul grounded

Under the forgiving sky
Where their roots go deep into the earth
My roots, I wish they went deep into the earth

In LA the ficus trees are thriving
So must I, so must I, so must I
As they go on living, go on giving
So must I , so must I, so must I
Become fluid like the ficus trees

Let Go of the Gold...

I'm running as fast as I can
Just to catch up with myself
And I can't stop to pass go
With the weight of gold breaking hands
I've always tried telling you so

So I let go of the gold
Weighing heavy on my soul
Yeah I let go of the gold
So I could free my hands
Free my hands from the weight of the gold
Free my hands free my hands free my hands
Now they're not weighed down
By the weight of the gold
Not weighed down by the weight of the gold anymore
Light as feathers released from a bird
Released from a cage free as a bird
Free as a bird free as a bird free as a bird

If I stop to pass go I'll lose my way
And then if not you I'll dearly pay
For holding on to the gold
That's weighing down my hands
I've always tried telling you so

So I let go of the gold
Weighing heavy on my soul
Yeah I let go of the gold
So I could free my hands
Free my hands from the weight of the gold
Free my hands free my hands free my hands
Now they're not weighed down
By the weight of the gold
Not weighed down by the weight of the gold anymore
Light as feathers released from a bird
Released from a cage free as a bird
Free as a bird free as a bird free as a bird

One day I'll be able to slow down
Slow down enough to pass go
Cash in on the gold and free my hands
That's been weighing heavy on my soul
I've always tried telling you so

So I let go of the gold
Weighing heavy on my soul
Yeah I let go of the gold
So I could free my hands
Free my hands from the weight of the gold
Free my hands free my hands free my hands
Now they're not weighed down
By the weight of the gold
Not weighed down by the weight of the gold anymore
Light as feathers released from a bird
Released from a cage free as a bird
Free as a bird free as a bird free as a bird

Sweet Waters...

Come take these matches from my hands
I don't wanna burn this bridge down
Now that I've made it halfway across
And my intentions are well in front of me
And my intentions are to cross over it
So please come take these matches from my hands

No don't let me burn this bridge down
Don't let me burn my soul to cinders
Come take these matches away from me
Take them out of my fatalistic hands
Toss them off this bridge into the river below

Let them sink down to the bottom
Down down down to the bottom
Let the sweet waters put them out
'Cause the only thing left I wanna burn is desire
As I watch my past go down in flames
Hands holding tightly onto wishboxed dreams
Eyes on my path laid out in front of me
Feet picking up where they left off years ago
As all the years of silence go down in flames

Come take these matches from my hands
I don't wanna burn this bridge down
Now that I've made it halfway across
And my intentions are well in front of me
And my intentions are to cross over it
So please come take these matches from my hands

No don't let me burn this bridge down
Don't let me burn my soul to cinders
Come take these matches away from me
Take them out of my fatalistic hands
Toss them off this bridge into the river below

Let them sink down to the bottom
Down down down to the bottom
Let the sweet waters put them out
'Cause instead of burning this bridge down
As I watch my past go down in flames
I'll pray for help with outstretched hands
With eyes open I'll see truth through lies
My feet'll lead me down my path in front of me
As all the years of silence go down in flames

Come take these matches from my hands
I don't wanna burn this bridge down
Now that I've made it halfway across
And my intentions are well in front of me
And my intentions are to cross over it
So please come take these matches from my hands

No don't let me burn this bridge down
Don't let me burn my soul to cinders
Come take these matches away from me
Take them out of my fatalistic hands
Toss them off this bridge into the river below

Let them sink down to the bottom
Down down down to the bottom
Let the sweet waters put them out
Sweet sweet waters
Let the sweet waters put them out

Catch the Moon...

I tried to catch the moon
But along with the stars
The moon slipped through my fingers
So I left to play with the sun

But even the sun abandons
Gives way to the moon
When day turns around night
And the stars come out to play

But my fickle, fickle hands
They only want the sun
When the moon runs away
Not even the stars like the day

No not even the stars like the day
They take sides with the moon
When the sun runs across the sky
Melting clouds along its way

Oh why oh why
Can't I catch the moon
The moon the moon
The beautiful moon
Oh why oh why
Do my fickle hands
Play with the sun
When the moon hides
Oh why oh why
Can't I catch the moon
The beautiful moon
That makes me swoon

Not even my hands can catch the sun
Nor the rain that falls upon me
On green grass laid out before me
Like the moon they slip through my fingers

No no no I can't catch the moon
And the stars they want to be free
So from where I dream on earth
I'll watch them shoot across the sky

Make wishes to one day catch the moon
Wearing a crown of shooting stars
Walking across the endless universe
Where the sun greets me with the moon

Oh the moon the moon
One day I'll catch the moon
The moon the moon the beautiful moon
The beautiful moon that makes me swoon

Swim Upstream...

I don't have you but I've got love
And love floats in the river of hope
Where all my fears will sink
Sink sink, sink to the bottom
As I swim to the future away from my past

'Cause it's either sink or swim
Do or die, the past don't lie
So I'll swim to the future away from my past

Swim swim, swim upstream
Where hope floats and love lasts
Swim to the future away from my past
Swim swim, swim upstream
Swim in a river of chocolate
Drink down the sweetness life offers
Swim swim, swim upstream
Where hope floats and love lasts
Swim to the future away from my past

If I cry anymore tears over you
I'll cry them into the river of hope
Where love floats and despair drowns
Drowns drowns, drowns to the bottom
As I swim to the future away from my past

'Cause the past dies and love lasts
Deep in the river of hope
Where I'll swim to the future away from my past

Swim swim, swim upstream
Where hope floats and love lasts
Swim to the future away from my past
Swim swim, swim upstream
Swim in a river of chocolate
Drink down the sweetness life offers
Swim swim, swim upstream
Where hope floats and love lasts
Swim to the future away from my past

Whenever I feel lost and wanna be found
Heavy with doubts weighin' me down
I'll swim deep in the river of hope
Let them sink sink, sink to the bottom
As I swim to the future away from my past

'Cause if I don't swim I'll sink
And I'd rather do than die
As I swim to the future away from my past

Swim swim, swim upstream
Where hope floats and love lasts
Swim to the future away from my past
Swim swim, swim upstream
Swim in a river of chocolate
Drink down the sweetness life offers
Swim swim, swim upstream
Where hope floats and love lasts
Swim to the future away from my past

Stones...

Oh my soul how it's yearning
And my heart how it's burning
To see the stones roll into the river
And to hear the trees call my name
Under vast wondrous blue skies
That never tell me any lies

Yeah I'm so tired of all this running
My feet they want to slow down and go back
They want to find a steady home
One I can live in for a while or two

How I want to breathe free again
Roam upon the deep green earth
That lies beneath my silent feet
Taking two steps back for two steps forward

Oh my soul how it's yearning
And my heart how it's burning
To see the stones roll into the river
And to hear the trees call my name
Under vast wondrous blue skies
That never tell me any lies

Oh take me back, take me back, take me back
I'm sorry I turned my back on you
Oh please take me back, take me back, take me back
I'll never turn my back on you again

I'll stand and face the gracing days
With age and grace that life's bestowed
I'll slowly walk that meditation mile
With hope inside my giving hands

Oh my soul how it's yearning
And my heart how it's burning
To see the stones roll into the river
And to hear the trees call my name
Under vast wondrous blue skies
That never tell me any lies

I know I've stumbled down my worn and treaded path
But every step I take leads me back to you
Back to you, back to you, leads me back to you
Where my struggles cease and leave me be

Leave me praying at the edge of timbered woods
Where silence permeates deep inside my bones
As I drop my futile struggles into the open earth
Come take me back heart, home and hearth

Oh my soul how it's yearning
And my heart how it's burning
To see the stones roll into the river
And to hear the trees call my name
Under vast wondrous blue skies
That never tell me any lies

Maple Golden Brown...

Maple golden brown
Round and round falls to the ground
Pine cones roll past my earthbound feet
'Tis the season autumn is so sweet

'Tis the time of thanks for life's blessings
Served up with hope seasoned with love
At a table filled with familial faces
Gratefulness coursing through our veins

Maple golden brown
Spinning spinning spinning
Maple golden brown
Falling to the ground
Maple golden brown
Nobody's lost nobody's found
Maple golden brown
Falling falling falling
Maple golden brown
Falling to the ground

Maple golden brown
Autumn's breath blows upon my skin
Round and round here we go again
As we fondly remember life's begin

The couch is worn, but all is well
Laughter spills across the room
Where life is lived and truths are told
In many shades of red, brown and gold

Maple golden brown
Spinning spinning spinning
Maple golden brown
Falling to the ground
Maple golden brown
Nobody's lost nobody's found
Maple golden brown
Falling falling falling
Maple golden brown
Falling to the ground

Maple golden brown
Spinning spinning spinning falling to the ground
Round and round we go passing through the seasons
Winter spring summer fall nature's ephemeral call

At the silent end of it all
We return back into the earth
Where all is lost and all is found
All life is temporally earthbound

Maple golden brown
Spinning spinning spinning
Maple golden brown
Falling to the ground
Maple golden brown
Nobody's lost nobody's found
Maple golden brown
Falling falling falling
Maple golden brown
Falling to the ground

Gather Time...

When I wander I gather time
Oh I wander almost all the time
When I wonder how much time
Is left in the sands for me

Oh the sands of time, the sands of time
Always slipping through the hourglass
One passing second at a time
Until each second slips through the past

Yeah when I wander I gather time
Oh I wander almost all the time
When I wonder how much time
Is left in the sands for me

Like drops in the ocean we're all connected
At the shores of life where forgiveness lies
Truth and sorrow live under the sun as one
As a new day dawns and yesterday is gone

When I wander I gather time
Oh I wander almost all the time
When I wonder how much time
Is left in the sands for me

Oh the desert, the vast desert
She holds life's secrets
Inside her endless dunes
Where my tethered soul retreats

Yeah when I wander I gather time
Oh I wander almost all the time
When I wonder how much time
Is left in the sands for me

When the wind blows, blows through me
Inside her howls she calls my name
Calling me to wander as I wonder
How much time is left in the sands for me

Yeah when I wander I gather time
Oh I wander almost all the time
When I wonder how much time
Is left in the sands for me
